London Just Oozes History (Hostels in london)

Tip! Top End - It may be that splendor, opulence and hedonism are at the top of your accommodation agenda. In which case, London’s duchesses of luxury such as The Ritz, The Connaught, Claridge’s, and The Dorchester will serve your needs handsomely.

The twentieth-century history of London is not a happy one. While the city was bombed during the First World War, it suffered relatively little. London was still rapidly expanding out into the suburbs, but it was hit hard by the worldwide depression of the 1930s, and then again by World War II.

Out of town shopping malls may well have started the decline of the traditional British high street over the last few years, and it’s easy to see why. However whilst London doesn’t offer any of these - it doesn’t need to!

Tip! Visit London’s secret gardens. Well they are not really secret, everyone knows they are there, however for 364 days of the year they are closed to the general public.

Back from a nice week in Devon, doing nothing except walk on the moors and lazing about. Couple of calls to the office - “Anything good happening?” “Well, it’s good you aren’t here” - and that’s about it. Didn’t even bother to travel 30 miles to take up the offer of a free lunch at Cornwall’s most famous seafood restaurant though, as this was compensation for a lunch I had there last year that pole axed me for three days with food poisoning, my non-attendance wasn’t 100% sloth related.

Way back in November I found myself at the Casby Awards after party trying to socialize with whomever I came across. One person who I chatted with that night was a guy named London Spicoluk, from the band Closet Monster. At that time I haven’t heard of them but I remembered his name and checked out their band out of interest.

Concerts - Neil Diamond at Earls Court, London in 2002 (London city)

Tip! Visit the Tower of London, after it has closed to tourists. The Tower of London has performed many roles over the years, namely a royal palace, a prison, a place of execution and a jewel house.

It was a hot July night (not a Hot August Night) in London and I was to see Neil Diamond perform live for the first time. I had been a fan of his music since my teens but had never been to one of his concerts. However, I knew that he had passed his 61st birthday and wondered if he could still actually sing. I needn’t have worried, he could!
